Ruby Falls
On the way to meet up with my family in Gatlinburg we decided to stop by Ruby Falls in Chattanooga, TN. Desi had been when she was a kid but I never had, so we thought it would be really fun to see it together. The history of how the underground cave and waterfall were originally discovered is amazing. During a project to re-open the cave to public visitation an elevator shaft was dug and in the process a small tunnel about a foot and a half tall by five feet wide was found. The workers followed the passages deep into the mountain and eventually found an underground cavern with a waterfall. The waterfall is 145 feet tall and today you have to ride an elevator down nearly 1120 feet beneath the mountain’s surface to see it. We had a great time!
